For Mark 7: 34

A lingering sign or outright groan,

issuing from eternity and arcing

over time? Surely, it was the groan.

They had brought him to you expecting

that you would puncture his deafness

and untwist his muddling tongue.

Your imperative, Ephphatha,

released the imprisoning ache

of his constraining isolation.

The reverberation of your groan

trembles through my deafness,

shaping sounds quivering in speech.
